Knitting Podcast #28 Winter Wrap Up Spring Knitting
The back of a quilt is just important as the front!
My grandma was a huge quilter, and she would never use good fabric on the back. I think that’s why I think that way!
Oh wow Lisa 🎉how amazing and bravo to you for being brave and saying YES!! All the best and brightest have imposter syndrome but marching through it, that’s where the power lies. I’m so happy for you, what a fun adventure 💪🏻🥰
So true! Feel the fear, and do it anyway. 💪💪💪
So happy for you Lisa! What an amazing experience and loved to to see your enthusiasm. The fabric is gorgeous!
Thank you so much! It was a pretty cool experience.
How exciting for you. I wonder did you realize that you know more than you thought. Being an actress you are already familiar with the camera and speaking in front of it, I would absolutely freeze. I don’t do well speaking to a group. I was just thinking how far you’ve come since Toronto when you were still learning. Darn, I. Just so exited for you.
Thank you, Anne! Yes, I really was able to access all the bits of information I had stored and bring them forward. I knew how to do it-it’s just the extra layer of time and camera pressure!
Wow, Lisa! How exciting was that! I did think it was odd, though, that they chose Spain to shoot the video since no one involved at the top was from there, other than you. Was that because you were in Spain?
Yes! It was easier to do it near to me. I also think it was probably more affordable than in Austria.
What a wonderful video and it sounds like an amazing (but stressful) experience. Doing something like this really does stretch a person and their skills and it sounds like you really grew through the experience in a way you wouldnt have otherwise. Bravo! It is nice to see you back on UA-cam. I will also keep an eye out for the course when it comes out. x
Thank you! Yes! It was a stretch- even though I consider myself an expert in sewing, it’s a whole different ballgame doing it on camera. 😘
Ooooh an Austrian pattern company, as an Austrian myself this is very exciting 😁
I’ll share lots about them soon!
It’s great to see your new video. Congratulations on this amazing achievement! I can imagine what an excellent learning course it is. I look forward to learning more about it and enhancing my sewing skills. The fabric is lovely.
I think it’s a great course!
Liberty lawn is wonderful for summer PJs if you're not sure about the colors for a garment. Thanks for sharing.
That’s a great idea!
Very exciting stuff! You have been missed. I enjoy your videos for so many reasons, you are always engaging. One of the things I appreciate is your Canadian manner of speaking. 🇨🇦
It’s the only manner I have! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Lisa! Lisa! I am thrilled for you! What a tremendous accomplishment! I cannot imagine being under that kind of pressure to sew. Of course you rose to the occasion and with Esther’s help, did amazing. I can’t wait to hear about your teaching job. I’ll admit I haven’t been watching your knitting videos, so I’m not up to date with all you have going on. So happy for you!
Thanks, Denise!
Hi, Lisa! I cannot believe you couldn’t find a ham! Love mine because it’s larger than the ones sold today. What an amazing opportunity!! I look forward to hearing more.
I know, isn’t that funny? Perhaps less in use today.
Good to see you in a bright color 🎉
I really enjoyed watching this and seeing you beaming while talking about this experience. The excitement was contagious and now I want to go and sew something! ❤
Glad to hear it, Annina! I hope you sew something you love!
Well, that sounded like a great opportunity and I’m so glad that you grew from it. I have a sticker on my computer that reminds me to do the hard things and that is kind of transformational because it’s very easy to stay in a comfortable rat but once you step out of it, it’s amazing!
Very true! I had to be very brave, but I made it, and I learned. ❤️
Your home looks so pretty! And this is a great video! Thank you for sharing. I’m trying to finally get into knitting. ☺️
Go for it! It’s so much fun.
i have tried most of these links and eaither you have to pay into a subscritption or it has an error, but the one that outbeats and stand strong is moody. they have over 300 patternes for free. why go anywhere else or have endless emails you dont want.
sadly the Anastasia blouse pattern is not free anymore
I’ve been busy with an overseas move and was out of the loop for a while. So grateful to have it behind me and to be able to sit and catch up on your videos and my knitting. Lovely lovely short tour, thank you for that! It does look a lot like Florence. Really enjoyed seeing your spring plans. That dress!!! Happy belated 50th!
Thanks Rebecca! Hope the move went well!
SO annoying when you have to loop the yarn through the ends of rows. Are you sure that it's not because you started unraveling at the wrong side? I learned that a while back and usually it is the case that if you have to do that it's because you need to unravel from the other end. Maybe not in your case, don't know, but anyway cashmere is so worth the trouble!!
Hmmm, I don’t think so- but I’ll try that next time and see!
Incredibly interesting and useful crafting knowledge thanks Lisa. Will be diving into the thrifting arena too now thanks to you. 🥰
Hi Lisa. I absolutely love your Noomi cardigan and well done reclaiming yarn! Learning from you and your videos thanks. I have been searching everywhere for this pattern - to no avail. Any idea at all, how I can buy it? I just can't make another cardigan as this one is in my heart! 🥰🙏🏼
Hi Sharon- it’s in the Sandnes Garn Booklet Double Sunday 2111. It’s not available as a digital download.
@@Lisamakes Thanks Lisa but I cannot locate that booklet to purchase. In NZ, but still should be able to buy ha. Any ideas from anyone, welcome 😁
You are so right about Kate and Pattern Emporium instructions, the booklet is usually around 50 pages! The best instructions and options ever.
Look forward to learning how to renew used projects!!!
I’ve since added a few more videos on the topic!
Hi Lisa, loved your pattern showcase and loved that these were patterns which were new to me. I was just about to start a new tee project but loved the Emmanuel pattern so much I started it straight after your podcast last night. Loving the lace panel in the back of the pattern. Thank you for bringing these patterns into the spotlight. X
That’s great to hear! Let me know how it turns out.
Super
Hi
Good info but I pay $18/month for no adds & it’s so infuriating when there are imbedded adds
You saw ads before and after the video? Maybe drop an email to UA-cam because the $18 they get from you is meant to keep those from appearing. Thanks for visiting!
@@Lisamakes no it was u promoting something in the video
@@laurab5889 Ah, yes. That’s completely different, and doesn’t have anything to do with your UA-cam subscription. It is very easy to skip past ads, and they allow me to keep putting time and energy into creating free content on UA-cam.
Woo Hoo happy half century from Australia Lisa! Hope you're having an amazing celebration. many happy returns xxx
Thank you!!
I do this a lot and it's awesome! I recently discovered that if I wind the yarn on my swift and steam it on the swift, it gets much straighter which I like because it feels softer and nicer to knit with, even though it's not necessary to do that!
I agree, it’s all about the feel! For me, it doesn’t matter, if it makes knitting nicer for you that’s a quicker fix. ;)
Hi Lisa, I am visiting your part of the world next week for a family wedding. Hopefully I will get a chance to shop in Barcelona and I was hoping that you would have recommendations for fabric, yarn and haberdashery shops. I will be a little time poor so if there were shops within easy walking distance of each other that would be great! Thanks. Maria
Hi! If you go to Ribes i Casals, there are two or three other shops on that street. I think one is called Dona Teixits. My favourite shop, though is Julian Lopez. It’s beautiful.
Late to the party, but I really like seeing either separate videos showcasing the different categories of makes or all-inclusive but with separate categories and time stamps. Your reclaimed yarn pullover is lovely. How fun that you hung out with Francesca!
Love the Harper tunic and the jumpsuit. I am an American living in Tanzania so I will be making these in African printed cloth. When I go home to the USA for Christmas, I will buy some solid, natural fabrics. Thanks. Happy sewing.
Thank you, great information.
I would really love a video with slipover patterns. Since I'm always waaaay too hot in normal sweaters slipovers with a thin cotton shirt underneath are really the only thing I can wear. Thank you for your inspiring content.
Yes, please!
Is that the European way, to cast on at the top of the garment? When I was little (1960s, USA)my great aunt started to teach me, and she always cast on at the bottom of the garment. Is one way better?
Hello! Casting on at the top of a garment, or top down knitting, has become the more popular way to knit garments in the last 10-15 years. It was invented in the US and continues to be popular all over. It allows the knitter to knit a garment seamlessly, try on as they go to check fit, and judge the length of the body and sleeves based on how much yarn they have left. I would say 90% of my garments were knit top town. It’s not a case of better or worse, just personal preference. ❤️
I have a sweater that is wool, and it came from the thrift store. I bought it so I could pull the sleeves off of it to make legwarmers. This is when I just was starting to learn to knit and a friend of mine said let’s go to the store and we’ll look for some sweaters that we can salvage the yarn. Anyhow, I still look upon your UA-cam and it made me remember that I have that sweater with its disconnected arms, lol, I am now going to frog that sweater. It’s a very nice wool. I very well now and I could make my own leg warmers from knitting, as opposed to cutting off the arms of a sweater. This is such a great idea! Especially for people who don’t have a lot of money to spend on good yarn, or even good acrylic yarn. I have a huge stash, of luxury horns, anything from yak to camel to Cashmere to good wool, which of course is not cheap. I just needed something to trigger that memory of buying that sweater, I will be checking out my thrift stores more often now. Thank you so much for this video and for the instruction.
I like the Fraya Ladylike top
Ooooh, that Emmanuel Tee is really catching my eye, thanks!
It’s cute, right?
Make the cardigan!! When in doubt....😊
I think I’ve decided to go with that option. For now, I’ve put it away until fall. Summer knitting it is!
Thanks
Love your podcast. I need your HELP. I am going crazy trying to find the pattern for the Mossdress. I have gone to Mother Knitting site and still unable to find a way to purchase the 2207 collection. I have to make that dress. I am in love with it.
Do you mind ordering from Europe? www.laine-et-tricot.com/en-eu/collections/sandnes-garn-1/products/2207-line-and-tynn-line-for-women
@@Lisamakes OMG, Thank You for getting back to me so fast. I do not mind ordering from Europe at all. I am so excited. Thank You. I too do "Knitting Math" and change the gauge to use different yarns and then knit the size that will give me the perfect fit. My Grandson is an Engineer and helped me do some math and his response was "WOW knitting is all math" He now is impressed with my knitting skill at a different level. Thank You again :)
@@karentruscelli5708 you’re welcome! If that one doesn’t work out, you can also check Las Tijeras Magicas. They have that one, last I checked. Glad your grandson appreciates your knitting even more now! 👍
or you could just thrift a sweater in your size and wear it...
Well, sure, but where’s the fun in that? ;) I actually have kept a few of the sweaters I’ve thrifted as is- but I enjoy knitting so much, it’s a great way for me to get special yarn. Win win.
